Durian is a tropical, hot fruit
Durian is a purely tropical crop. The daily average temperature where it grows is above 22°C. It can be grown in frost-free areas. Hainan Province, my country It can be developed in some areas of Yunnan Province, because durian requires a high-temperature climate all year round to grow and bear fruit. Even in highlands above 600 meters above sea level in the equatorial region, durian cannot be planted or will not bear fruit due to the drop in temperature. It has been successfully cultivated in Xinglong Tropical Botanical Garden in Hainan. It blooms from April to May and ripens from August to September.
Durian planting technology
1. Sowing and propagation: Durian can be sown every year, preferably in spring, and the row spacing between sowing plants is preferably 20 cm x 20 cm. During the seedling growth period, attention should be paid to weeding and combined with fertilization to promote the growth of the seedlings. Excellent mother plants can be propagated by aerial layering, which is very easy to take root. It only takes 60 to 70 days from ringing branches to mature seedlings.
2. Seedling planting: When the durian seedlings are 30 to 40 centimeters tall, they can be planted. The spacing between rows is 3x5 meters. Apply organic fertilizer, soil fertilizer and appropriate amount of lime as base fertilizer. It can be planted all year round, preferably with soil.
3. Fertilization management: Durian trees should focus on fertilizing once a year, namely budding fertilizer in spring, fruit enlargement fertilizer in summer and pre-fruit picking fertilizer. Apply Trim water-soluble fertilizer once.
4. Shaping and pruning: Durian trees have strong budding power. Pay attention to shaping and pruning 1 to 2 years after planting, and prune in time after picking the fruit to maintain a good tree shape.
5. Harvest fruits: Durian fruits are mature when they turn orange-yellow or orange-red and can be harvested. After harvesting, the fruits cannot be eaten directly. They need to be ripe for 4 to 7 days until the pulp becomes soft. edible.
