First, the planting time of garlic
Due to the different temperatures in different places, the planting time of garlic varies greatly. For example, if it is not very cold in winter in the south of China, you can sow in autumn and let it spend the winter when there are about five or six leaves. When the temperature is low, it will enter the dormant period, continue to grow in spring, and harvest in early summer of the following year. If it is very cold in winter in the north and it is impossible to plant garlic in the open air, it is generally recommended to plant garlic in spring when the temperature reaches 5~6℃.
Second, seed selection
The size of garlic seeds affects the yield. The bigger the petals of garlic, the more nutrients it contains. The roots of the seedlings are developed, the stems and leaves are thick and long, and the garlic moss is thick and the garlic is big at harvest. First, remove the stems and plates of garlic, and choose garlic grains with moderate size, relatively smooth and no obvious damage or spots of diseases and insect pests as seeds. It is required that the weight of each grain should be about 5g, and it should be aired for two days before sowing to improve the germination rate.
Third, the planting method
Plant garlic cloves in the soil, with the garlic head down, insert them into the soil for about three to five centimeters, and then cover them with a layer of soil. Plantar fertilizer should be applied to the soil, and 500 kilograms of decomposed livestock manure and urine fertilizer should be used per mu of land. When planting, the distance between two plants should be controlled at 5 cm, and the soil should be watered enough, so that garlic seedlings can grow faster.
Four, water and fertilizer management
When planting garlic, be sure to keep the soil moist, water it again in two days, and then cover it with film. 1 week later, garlic sprouts grow. Remove this film and let them receive more sunlight. When the garlic seedlings grow to 5 cm, apply decomposed organic fertilizer once or 4000 kg per mu, then mix it with 20 kg of potassium sulfate and 50 kg of calcium superphosphate and spread it evenly on the ground. When ploughing deeply, mix the soil and fertilizer evenly. Topdressing should be combined with watering, and intertillage weeding should be carried out at the same time to increase soil permeability and prevent hardening.
Planting method and time of garlic
Verb (abbreviation of verb) matters needing attention
Garlic likes cold environment and has the characteristics of natural dormancy. Early sowing leads to slow emergence. After emergence, the cold resistance of garlic seedlings decreases due to high temperature and rapid growth, and the leaves under the later plants are easy to turn yellow. Sowing too late, garlic seedlings have not yet grown up and accumulated less nutrients, which is not conducive to overwintering, resulting in shorter growth time of stems and leaves, fewer leaves and smaller garlic heads, which affects quality and yield.
