Tongliao's specialties include air-dried beef jerky, Mongolian king wine, medical stone, vegetable bag, Longju koumiss wine, fried rice and Wulan koumiss wine. Tongliao is one of the birthplaces of Mongolian nationality. There are three kinds of narrative folk songs and thousands of short-tune folk songs in Horqin grassland, and folk artists such as Pajie and Mao Yihan and singers such as Salahi and Chaganbala have emerged.
In Tongliao, there are five railways: Jingtong, Tongrang, Dazheng, Tonghuo and Jitong. The international freight train "through to Europe" has been opened, with 3 expressways, 6 national highways and 7 provincial highways running through it.
