The caudex is fleshy, conical, 4-7 cm long, 2-4 cm in diameter, with a slender, woody end. The surface is dark brown, with short transverse rows of protuberances and a few whisker-like branch roots. Dry root surface gray-brown, densely irregularly wrinkled. The texture is soft and tough; the cut surface is light brown externally, whitish internally, fibrous.
