Duckbill fish has strong adaptability, rapid growth, docile temperament and short food chain, and is the only fish that feeds on zooplankton among all sturgeons. Its bait source is wide, easy to raise and catch, and it is suitable for breeding in reservoirs, lakes and ponds.
The feeding habits of platypus are similar to those of silver carp (that is, bighead carp, which is called bighead carp in different places). It is a filter-feeding fish, which mainly feeds on zooplankton and cladocera, especially on Daphnia, and occasionally eats small aquatic insects such as chironomid larvae. The paddlefish, whose body length is less than 12 cm, can eat zooplankton one by one, or eat small fish shrimp. The fish is over 12 cm long, and its feeding organs are developed, so it can catch fast-swimming copepods by filtration. As the paddlefish grow, they also eat pellet feed. In the juvenile stage, because of the long snout and peculiar body, the abdomen is upward when feeding granular feed, which is unique and attractive, so it has high ornamental value and can be raised as a senior ornamental fish.
