"Farewell My Concubine" is also known as "Nine Mile Hill", "Chu and Han Controversy", "Death of the Wujiang River", "Hatred of the Wujiang River", "The Siege of Gaixia", "Ambush on All Sides", and "Cutting One's Own Throat in the Wujiang River". It is a traditional Peking Opera play based on the Historical Records of Xiang Yu, the 79th and 80th Annals of the Western Han Dynasty and the Shen Cai Legend of the Ming Dynasty.

Farewell My Concubine is one of the quite important plays of Peking Opera. This play was originally called "Chu Han Farewell", based on Kunqu's "The Record of a Thousand Golds" and "The Records of the Grand Historian - Xiang Yu's Chronicle". Total **** four books.In 1918, it was premiered in Beijing by Yang Xiaolou and Shang Xiaoyun.On February 15, 1922, Yang Xiaolou collaborated with Mei Lanfang.
