The breeding process of the White Clouded Goldfish is fairly natural. First, when a pair of parent fish is placed in the tank, after about a week, small changes in the female's abdomen signal the birth of eggs. At this point, the parent fish need to be removed in order to protect the eggs and prevent them from accidentally eating them. After the eggs are shaken off from the mother fish, they need to be incubated under suitable water temperature conditions of about 25 degrees Celsius, usually for one to three days.
Besides reproduction, Baiyunjinshi have unique morphological characteristics. Their body length to height ratio is about 4.2-5 times, head length is 5.0-6.0 times the length of the muzzle, and eye diameter accounts for 2.6-3.0 times the head length. Distance between head and eye between 2.1-5 times, with a ratio of 1.9-2.2 times caudal peduncle length to caudal peduncle height.
The White Cloud Goldfish prefers to live in mountain streams and has a lively and gentle disposition, adapting to a wide range of conditions and tolerating low temperatures even in the subtropics. They are omnivorous small fish, taking plankton and humus as their main food, so their body color changes with the environment, sex and feeding conditions. Usually, the body is brown on the dorsum, silvery white on the ventral surface, with golden or silvery blue stripes on the sides, a rich red spot at the base of the caudal peduncle, and a golden yellow iris. The dorsal fin is red with yellow and blue spots, and the other fins are yellow-green with transparent edges.
