Benthic life, often living in crevices and caves of coral reefs, or at the bottom of gravel or shells. Carnivorous, mainly preys on gastropods, bivalves and crustaceans with slow movement at the bottom of the ocean, and can be fed with animal foods such as fish and shrimp when raised artificially.
It is distributed in tropical waters of Indo-Western Pacific, from Guam to East Africa, including South China Sea and Taiwan Province Sea of China.
