In 2017 alone, South Korea's imports of Chinese kimchi reached 275,600 tons, but South Korea's exports were only 24,000 tons, a deficit that is ten times greater.

Why is Chinese kimchi so popular? Because Chinese kimchi is very cheap, the price of seven pounds of Chinese kimchi is comparable to the price of one pound of Korean kimchi, and that's why more and more Koreans are choosing Chinese kimchi.

But why is there a trade deficit between China and South Korea in kimchi? It's because China has a strict gatekeeping system for imported food. For traditional Korean kimchi, it's hard to meet China's health standards for imported food. Since 2013, the number of Korean kimchi exports reached an all-time low. And of course the years after that have been years of decreases.

So South Korea came up with this. Rename kimchi.

Korean kimchi, which translates to kimichi in Europe and North America, has greatly increased its popularity. So the Koreans tried to repeat the trick by giving kimchi a Chinese name, Simchi, which also harmonizes with Xinqi.

But the Koreans got it wrong. Xinqi has long been no novelty, now the Chinese people know Korean kimchi, usually also eat Chinese made Korean kimchi. Such a market, the South Koreans how much effort, I am afraid it will not help.
