In the northern hemisphere, March to May is spring, June to August is summer, September to11month is autumn, and1February is winter. Summer, the second of the four seasons, is the hottest season in a year in the northern hemisphere. China is used to taking long summer as the beginning of summer, and now people regard June, July and August of the Gregorian calendar as "summer".

Folk customs divide the four seasons by 24 solar terms:

Spring: February 3-5 in beginning of spring, February18-20 in rain, March 5-7 in fright, March 20-22 in vernal equinox, April 4-6 in Qingming Festival and April19-21day in Grain Rain;

Summer: May 5-7 in long summer, May 20-22 in Xiaoman, June 5-7 in Miscanthus, June 21-22 in summer solstice, July 6-8 in summer heat and July 22-24 in summer heat; ?

Autumn: August 7-9 in beginning of autumn, August 22-24 in summer, September 7-9 in Bailu, September 22-24 in autumnal equinox, August 8-9 in Hanlu/KLOC-0 and October 23-24 in first frost/KLOC-0; ?

Winter: beginning of winter 1 1 July 7-8, Xiaoxue 1 February 22-23, Daxue 1 February 6-8, Winter Solstice1February 21.
