Hunan City University is a public institution.

1. Hunan City University is a full-time general undergraduate institution sponsored by the People's Government of Hunan Province.

Starting from 2020, the school will recruit a batch of undergraduate students from Hunan Province.

The school is located in Yiyang City, Hunan Province, a core city in the eco-economic circle around the lake on the middle and lower reaches of the Yangtze River plains and on the south bank of Dongting Lake. The school has profound cultural heritage, beautiful natural environment, and convenient transportation. It only takes half an hour by high-speed train to the provincial capital Changsha.

2. The school’s predecessors are Yiyang District Normal College founded in 1970 and Yiyang Basic University founded in 1978.

In March 2002, with the approval of the Ministry of Education, the then Hunan Urban Construction College and Yiyang Normal College merged into Hunan City College.

3. The school follows the spirit of the school motto of “Pursuing both character and learning, unifying knowledge and practice” and strives to build a university that satisfies the people. In 2014, it became a “Pilot Unit for Information Construction of the Ministry of Education”. In 2018, it passed the review and evaluation of the undergraduate teaching work of the Ministry of Education at a high level.

It has joined the ranks of Hunan Province’s “high-level applied colleges” and will be approved as a new master’s degree-granting unit in 2021.

4. The school currently has a campus area of ??1,415 acres and a construction area of ??592,500 square meters.

It has fixed assets of 1.523 billion yuan.

There are 2.27 million paper books and 2.6 million electronic books.

There are 1,587 faculty members, including 1,325 full-time teachers, 134 with senior professional and technical positions, and 367 with doctorate degrees.
