Lau Pa Sat Food Center was once known as Telok Ayer Market, but now it is home to a variety of local food stalls, from satay to seafood barbecue.
When it first opened in 1825, it became an important seaside market where traders could unload and load goods directly from ships. The original building was made of simple wood and att leaves, built on wooden piles. Due to its instability, the market was rebuilt in 1836.
Due to land reclamation, the new market was once demolished and reopened in 1894. At this time, the market was no longer a simple building with simple materials and primitive processes, but was built by municipal engineer James MacRitchie. design.
Since being designated as a national historical monument in 1973, Lau Pa Sat is famous for its octagonal architectural structure, which was later transformed into a famous food paradise.
Lao Pa Sat has many food options, and tourists can find almost any food here. The fact that it is open 24 hours a day makes its character even more obvious.
