Xichang Torch Festival is usually held on June 24th of the lunar calendar every year for three days. Torch Festival has lasted for more than 1000 years since Han and Tang Dynasties. It is a unique traditional festival of Yi people, with the most spectacular scenes, the largest number of participants and the strongest national characteristics. Torch Festival is one of the first list of intangible cultural heritage published in China. It is one of the top ten folk festivals in China and one of the top ten famous festivals in Sichuan. Xichang, a space city, is the seat of Liangshan Yi Autonomous Prefecture and a transit point for Butuo, Puge County and towns. The transportation to Xichang is very convenient: Chengdu and Kunming have flights to and from Xichang; Chengdu-kunming railway and National Highway 108 pass through Xichang. There are also guest houses and hotels in towns and villages, but the prices are low and the sanitary conditions are not as good as those in county towns.
