On November 1, 2015, at the 2015 China (International) Leisure Development Forum held in Hangzhou, Zhejiang, Yueyang won the title of "China's Top Ten Dynamic Leisure Cities in 2015".

On February 28, 2015, the 4th National Civilized Cities Commendation Conference was held grandly in the Great Hall of the People in Beijing.

Yueyang was rated as the 4th National Civilized City by the Central Civilization Commission.

In 2014, Yueyang won the title of the city with the happiest and most cultural soft power in China.

Yueyang has become the second largest city in the province in terms of average annual retail consumption, regional GDP, fiscal revenue, industrial scale and strength, and fixed asset investment; the country implements the "Rise of Central China" strategy; it is a first-class tourist city in China that is open to the outside world.

In 2010, Yueyang was hotly discussed by Chinese official media and people as the city with the highest comprehensive score for relocating the capital.

On December 25, 2011, the China Cities Comprehensive Strength Research Results Conference and the "China Cities Coordinated Development and Comprehensive Strength Research Report" were released in Beijing. In the sixth city comprehensive strength ranking released by the National Bureau of Statistics, Yueyang leads the way in comprehensive strength.

Many major cities in central and eastern China rank 57th in the country.

In the "10th Report on China's Urban Competitiveness" released by the School of Finance and Economics of the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences and the China Urban Competitiveness Research Center of the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences in 2012, Yueyang became the second city in Hunan to be shortlisted for the national 50 after Changsha.

A strong city; ranking 7th among 72 large and medium-sized cities in six central provinces, including sub-provincial capital cities; in 1992, Yueyang, Chongqing and Wuhan were approved by the State Council as China's first batch of five key opening-up cities along the Yangtze River.

In 2009, Yueyang was selected as one of the 60 urban development representatives in the 60th anniversary of the founding of New China.
