Zengcheng has a long history. Zengcheng Jianxian County was established in the sixth year of Jian 'an in the Eastern Han Dynasty (AD 21), and it belongs to Nanhai County, with a history of more than 1,8 years. Zengcheng is a beautiful name taken from the ancient Kunlun myth in China. Myth and legend have it that there are nine heavies in Zengcheng on Kunlun Mountain, which means that Zengcheng is a fairy city with nine heavies in the upper layer of Kunlun Mountain, hence the county name "Zengcheng".
Zengcheng has a long history of ancient culture. In history, the people's literary and artistic creations are rich and colorful, and many officials and scholars have left immortal chapters. In the 14th year of Tang Yuanhe (819), Han Yu, a writer, was demoted as the secretariat of Chaozhou for admonishing the Buddha's bones. When passing through Zengcheng, he wrote two poems, Su Zeng Jiang Kou Showing My Grandnephew Xiang, which have been passed down to this day. Among the townspeople, the works of ancient Cheng, a scholar in the Northern Song Dynasty, have been handed down from generation to generation. Cui yuzhi, a scholar, strategist and politician in the Southern Song Dynasty, is famous for his poems, and is known as the "ancestor of Cantonese Ci", and he has written The Complete Works of Jupo. Chen Dazhen, a scholar in the Song Dynasty, wrote Annals of the South China Sea in the eighth year of Yuan Dade (134), and his remnant is the earliest extant annals in Guangdong. Li Xiaolong, a scholar in the seventh year of Emperor Xianchun (1271), inscribed a poem in the stone wall of Baihualin, which is the only original poem found in the Song Dynasty so far. Zhan Ruoshui, a scholar in the Ming Dynasty, is a famous educator, philosopher and poet at home and abroad. His legacy is more than 3 volumes of Zhan Ganquan Collection. Hu Tinglan, a scholar in Ming Dynasty, is also famous for his education, and he is the author of Xiang Jiang Subset. Qing Qianlong was a Jinshi Zhan Zugui, and he wrote "Poems of Hongli Mountain House". Lai Jixi, a scholar, is the author of Lituo Anthology.
