Yichang, a prefecture-level city and sub-central city in Hubei province, is a regional central city in the central region and a member of the urban agglomeration in the middle reaches of the Yangtze River approved by the State Council. It is located at the boundary between central China, southwest Hubei and the upper and middle reaches of the Yangtze River, and is known as the "gateway to the Three Gorges" and "throat of Sichuan and Hubei".

On April 2, 217, Yichang District of China (Hubei) Pilot Free Trade Zone was officially unveiled.
