Basic Overview Meijiang District was established in March 1988. Meijiang District is the seat of the Meizhou Municipal Party Committee and Municipal Government of Guangdong Province, and the political, economic, cultural and transportation center of Meizhou City.

It has jurisdiction over 5 urban sub-district offices of Dongshan, Chengxi, Jiangnan, Wuzhou and Jinshan and 5 suburban towns of Dongshan, Xijiao, Changsha, Chengbei and Sanjia. There are 60 village committees and 50 residents' committees.

Meijiang District is a county-level district directly under the jurisdiction of Meizhou City established in March of the same year after the city-governed county system was implemented in January 1988.
