Flower cake is a specialty of Yunnan.
Taking Yunnan's unique edible roses as raw materials, the quality of Yunnan's edible roses is particularly good because of Yunnan's spring-like climate and abundant sunshine. The end of April and the beginning of May are the blooming periods for Yunnan people to eat roses every year. Flower cake is a way to eat roses, and the rose cake made of high-quality edible roses is more fragrant.
Because the petals of edible roses are needed to make rose cakes, and the flowering period of edible roses is limited, flower cakes are also made of different flowers, such as lily, jasmine, chrysanthemum and taro flowers, and dozens of them can be used to make flower cakes.

Legend of the origin of flower cake
As a special food in Yunnan, it is said that flower cake was invented by a cake maker in Yunnan in the Qing Dynasty more than 300 years ago. There is a record in Yanjing's Chronicle of the Year: "In April, roses are eaten, which is called rose cake. Those who regard vines as flowers are called vine cakes. Seasonal food. " However, there are some folk stories about the origin of flower cakes:
During the Qianlong period of the Qing Dynasty, the Qing-Myanmar war broke out on the border of Yunnan, and chieftains and central clansmen from various regions of Yunnan participated in the war. Among them, 800 Miao Yi brave men fought bravely, and less than 200 people returned to Miao Yi tribe after the war. Qianlong sent an imperial envoy to Yunnan to reward the three armed forces with royal wine and money. The imperial envoy specially went to Miao Yi tribe to pay the royal wine tax, but Miao Yi tribe was located in a remote mountainous area and was rich in material resources. When the imperial envoy came, there was nothing to entertain, so the chief ordered people to pick all kinds of petals, supplemented by honey sesame oil, and made a flower scone to entertain the imperial envoy. The imperial envoys were full of praise after tasting it, and brought Miao Yi flower cake, flower seeds and flower cake making apprentices back to Beijing. After tasting it, Qianlong was overjoyed and wrote eight golden words to the people of Miao Yi: "I am a God-given Miao Yi, and I will taste the nectar." Since then, in Miao Yi tribe, flower cakes have become an important food and tribute to entertain distinguished guests.
