Guangzhou, referred to as Yangcheng and Huacheng for short, is a prefecture-level city under the jurisdiction of Guangdong Province. It is the capital of Guangdong Province, a sub-provincial city, a national central city, a megacity and a core city of Guangzhou metropolitan area. The State Council approved China to become an important central city, international business center and comprehensive transportation hub.

Guangzhou is located in the south of China, in the lower reaches of the Pearl River, near the South China Sea.
