On January 24, 1950, Weng Qianyu was born in Taipei City, Taiwan Province. When Shi was 2 years old, due to his father Weng Bingrong's work, he moved to Tokyo, Japan with his family.
Weng Bingrong served as the representative of China Broadcasting Corporation in Japan, and Weng Qianyu began to live in Japan. By chance, Weng Qianyu joined Toho Co., Ltd.; Weng Bingrong gave her language training, taught her to sing Chinese songs, and wrote lyrics himself.
When Weng Qianyu was 8 years old, she joined the Tokyo Sunflower Theater Company. When Weng Qianyu was 13 years old, she starred in the American-Japanese film "The Big Wave" (adapted from Pearl Buck's short story of the same name).
When Weng Qianyu was 16 years old, she learned vocal music from vocalist Satoshi Matsuda, and published her first single "爱ってどんなもの" on Columbia Records in Japan; in the same year, she signed a film contract with Central Film Company. In 1968, Weng Qianyu participated in the Taiwanese movie "Xiao Cui", which was an excellent box office success.
In 1972, Weng Qianyu won the Best Actress Award at the 10th Golden Horse Awards for starring in the movie "The True and False Girl". In 1973, Weng Qianyu moved to CBS/Sony Records for development, and won the Special Acting Award at the Southeast Asian Film Festival for the movie "The World of Love". In 1978, Weng Qianyu participated in "The New West Chamber", her last film in Taiwan, and since then she concentrated on developing her acting career in Japan.
