Shunde, located in the hinterland of the Pearl River Delta, is one of the five administrative divisions of Foshan. It borders Guangzhou in the north and Hong Kong and Macao in the south, covering an area of 806 square kilometers, and is adjacent to Guangzhou, Zhongshan and Jiangmen. Shunde ranks first in the top 100 national comprehensive strength zones for 10 consecutive years, and has been selected as one of the "Top 10 Demonstration Counties and Cities with Comprehensive Well-off Society in China" for 12 consecutive years, ranking first in the top 100 national green development zones.

Most areas of Shunde belong to the estuary delta plain where rivers are alluvial. The terrain is slightly higher in the northwest, about 2 meters above sea level, slightly lower in the southeast, 0.7 meters above sea level, with some scattered hills. Shunde is surrounded by mountains. The highest mountain is Jinping Mountain in longjiang town in the west, followed by Shunfeng Mountain in Jiuzhai in the southeast. The rivers in Shunde are vertical and horizontal, and the water network is intertwined. There are major rivers 16, with a total length of 756 kilometers.

History and culture

Shunde, with its profound historical and cultural heritage, is one of the areas with the most concentrated essence of Lingnan culture. It is one of the cradles of Cantonese Opera and Cantonese Opera. In 2007, it was awarded as the "Hometown of Chinese Quyi". Shunde's architectural culture is unique, and many scenic spots representing Lingnan water town culture have accumulated in the territory, such as Qinghui Garden, one of the four famous gardens in Guangdong, and the resplendent Bijiang Golden Building.

Shunde's food culture has a long history and enjoys the reputation of "World Food Capital" and "China Chef's Hometown". The annual food festival has become one of the local brand activities. Shunde is the cradle of many historical celebrities and talented scholars.
