Songtao Miao Autonomous County (Songtao for short) is a county under the jurisdiction of tongren city. Founded in 1956, it is one of the earliest autonomous counties approved by the State Council. According to the data of the seventh census, as of 0: 00 1 1 in June 2020, the permanent population of Songtao Miao Autonomous County was 487,737.

Songtao is located at the eastern foot of Fan Jing, the main peak of Wuling Mountain, at the junction of Guizhou, Hunan and Chongqing provinces, connected with Huayuan and Fenghuang in Hunan, and bordered by Youyang and Xiushan in Chongqing. With a moderate geographical location and convenient transportation, it is known as the "gateway to eastern Guizhou". In ancient times, it was known as "Tongchuan Chu, restraining Sanxiang".
