Jiwan Shrine

In the early Meiji period, the Mito Domain righteous men who admired the virtues of Tokugawa Mitsuhiro and Tokugawa Saiaki established a shrine in Kairakuen Gardens (one of the three major gardens in Japan). In March of the 6th year of Meiji, according to the emperor's decree, the name of the shrine was changed to "Jiwan Shrine", and in October the names of the gods were also determined.
