Country Profile The Republic of Singapore, formerly known as Singapore or Singapore (commonly known as Xingzhou or Xingguo), is a city-island country in Southeast Asia, located at the southern end of the Malay Peninsula and at the south entrance of the Strait of Malacca.

It faces Indonesia across the sea from the Singapore Strait to the south, and is connected to Malaysia across the Johor Strait to the north by a long causeway.

In addition to the main island, Singapore's territory also includes several surrounding islands.
