Introduction to Ye Shengtao:

Ye Shengtao (October 28, 1894—February 16, 1988), formerly known as Ye Shaojun. Writer, editor and educator. Experiment with new teaching methods in early years. One of the founders of the Literature Research Association, he once edited the Novel Monthly, and his works occupy an important position in the history of literature. His representative works include the novel Ni Huanzhi, the collection of fairy tales The Scarecrow, and the short story Mr. Pan is in trouble. After the founding of the People's Republic of China, he served as the leader of publishing, education, literature and history departments. In the eyes of many readers, Ye Shengtao is just a children's literature writer and educator. In fact, his novels are excellent, and his contribution in the history of modern literature can not be ignored. (Yu Hui)

Life: Ye Shengtao was originally named Shi Shaogou and was born in Suzhou, Jiangsu. My father worked as a treasurer in the landlord's house, and his family was poor. He was admitted to Caoqiao Middle School in 197 and worked as a teacher in an elementary school after graduation. In 1914, he was expelled from school, and his essays and novels were published in magazines such as Saturday. In the autumn of 1915, he went to Shanggong School attached to Shanghai Commercial Press to teach Chinese, and compiled Chinese textbooks for primary schools for the Commercial Press. In 1917, he was hired to teach at the Fifth Higher Primary School in Yongzhi County, Wuxian County. In 1918, the first vernacular novel "Spring Banquet" was published in Volume 4, No.2 and No.3 of Women's Magazine. In 1919, he joined the trendy club organized by students in Peking University, and published novels and papers in Trendy. In 1921, Zheng Zhenduo and Mao Dun organized and launched the Literature Research Association, and published their works in Novel Monthly and Literary Xunkan. In 1922, the first collection of short stories, Diaphragm, was published. The Scarecrow, published in 1923, is the first collection of fairy tales in China. In 1928, he wrote the excellent novel Ni Huanzhi. From 1923 to 193, he worked as an editor in Shanghai Commercial Press. In May 1927, he began to edit the Novel Monthly. In 193, he transferred to Kaiming Bookstore as an editor. During his stay in War of Resistance against Japanese Aggression, his family moved to China, and he was a professor of Chinese Department of Wuhan University in Leshan. Later, he went to Chengdu to preside over the editing of Kaiming Bookstore. Returned to Shanghai in 1946.

After the founding of New China, he was the director of the General Administration of Publishing, the vice minister of education, the president of People's Education Publishing House, the curator of central research institute of culture and history and the vice chairman of Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference.
