Spring outing to Bianhe Street

At 4pm, my husband suggested going to Bianhe Street to watch the sunset.

I was full of doubts, would there be a sunset to watch in such a wet and cold weather?

In the blink of an eye, it doesn't matter if there is sunset or not, it's good to go out for a walk.

Bianhe Street is the main street running from the north to the south of Yueyang Tower. The street is a stone road paved with granite, about three meters wide.

There are rows of shops on both sides of the street, including Dongting fish-themed teahouses, inns, restaurants, snacks, and bars.

A row of red lanterns hangs at the door of some shops, which is warm and dazzling.

Some hung rectangular or triangular flags, making people feel like they were in ancient streets.

The New Year is over, and it’s not the end of the week. Bianhe Street has lost its hustle and bustle during the New Year.

In the bluestone alley, tourists in twos and threes leisurely taste local snacks and Junshan Silver Needle Tea, and admire handicrafts and Yuezhou Kiln ceramics.

My husband and I walked on the street paved with bluestones, and the snacks and delicacies on both sides were eye-catching.

"Fresh shrimp cakes" are delicious, crispy and delicious.

Hunan's specialty "stinky tofu" is crispy on the outside and tender on the inside. It smells stinky but tastes delicious.

"Coir raincoat radish" is golden in color, crisp, tender and refreshing, which makes you appetite.

Shops selling traditional handmade sugar crafts and handmade ginger candies are crowded together.

In front of each snack bar, people suddenly seemed to pop up from the ground, surrounded by foodies waiting in line.

The shop that sells snails is doing a good business. The proprietress is busy packing and packing, and the boss is busy charging fees and attracting customers.

Several huge stainless steel basins are filled with snails and placed on the counter of the shop. The snails in the basins are very large and eye-catching. Two or three snails can fill a bowl. The red dry pepper is mixed with turmeric slices and has a rich flavor.

The soup is mouth-watering.

I walked closer to take pictures, and my husband told me: "This big field snail is called Fushou snail. It is very cold. It is easy to have diarrhea after eating it. There are many parasites in the field snail in the river. To enjoy its deliciousness, you must clean it. The field snail has heat-clearing properties."

It can improve eyesight and can also treat jaundice, athlete's foot and hemorrhoids. In addition, aquatic plants and animals are cooling in nature, so be sure to add ginger or pepper when cooking to balance their cooling properties.

.

"So which season is the best to eat?" I asked curiously.

My husband replied with a smile: "There is a folk saying that "the snails are full of babies in March". The best time to eat snails is around the Mid-Autumn Festival. This is the time when the snails are the fattest in the year. At this time, the snails are not only delicious but also delicious.

The meat is juicy and you don’t have to worry about eating a mouthful of snails. "Okay, I just went to take a photo."

I remembered the sugar-oiled cakes I bought when I visited Bianhe Street during the Spring Festival last year. They looked attractive in color, soft and delicious.

I ate too fast. When my husband tasted the musty smell of glutinous rice flour, I had already slid three pieces of rice cake into my stomach and couldn't spit it out.

Fortunately the next day, I had no adverse reactions.

Because of this, my husband always laughs at me for having a “stomach made of iron.”

Most of the diners operating on this street are out-of-town tourists, so there is a phenomenon of vendors selling substandard food. From now on, I don’t dare to buy snacks here anymore.

While taking pictures, I asked my husband: "Hey, why didn't I see any sugar-oiled cakes for sale today?" My husband laughed, "You still want to eat sugar-oil cakes?" "I don't dare anymore, I just want to take a picture of the cakes."

I said reluctantly: "I just saw a new sign on the right side of the entrance of this street, "Integrity and Civilization Demonstration Street." It must be that the urban management on-site rectification has paid off." Walking forward, I saw it.

The inscription is Fan Zhongyan's inscription "Be anxious when the world is worried first, and be happy after the world is happy".

Without Fan Zhongyan's "Yueyang Tower", not so many people would know about Yueyang Tower, and not so many people would be yearning for it.

"Yueyang Tower" is well written throughout, but the two famous sayings that are widely recited are "worry about the world's worries first, and rejoice after the world's happiness".

Yueyang Tower is famous all over the world because of these two famous quotes, which was probably something neither Teng Zijing nor Fan Zhongyan expected.

After exiting the snack street of Bianhe Street, I looked towards Dongting Lake next to Yueyang Tower. The sand dragging boat had resumed normal operation and was moving sand in an orderly and repeated manner.

Dongting Lake and Yueyang Tower are connected into a whole.

Standing on the Yueyang Tower, you can see sailboats passing by and egrets flying in the lake.

From a distance, you can see the vast and boundless Dongting Lake, which leads to Wu Gorge in the north and Xiaoxiang in the South Pole.

It seems that what Meng Haoran wrote, "Steaming clouds and dreamy lakes, shaking Yueyang City" are not empty words.

"Master Cao's Tofu Skin" across the road from Bianhe Street is a local internet celebrity check-in shop. It is said that the tofu skin inside is charred on the outside and waxy on the inside. Some people have packaged dozens or even hundreds of them and mailed them to foodies from other places.

The store has three flavors: beef filling, mushroom and pork filling, and pork filling.

When we went there, they only had pork fillings, and they cost 5 yuan each. Well, let’s buy one to try first.

When I took a bite, the tofu skin was a bit hard, the outer skin was a bit lacking in oil, and the peppery flavor was quite strong.

My husband took a bite and said it was not delicious. He felt that the tofu skin was not as fragrant, soft and thick as the tofu skin bought in Wuhan.

Along the street, I walked and ate, passing by Miaoqian Street, Baling Bridge, and Xiaolongcheng. These places were once the only places where old Yueyang people went to buy clothes and bedding. Now they have been demolished because they cannot adapt to the needs of the times.

It was transformed into a huge empty parking lot.

I came to "BBK Supermarket" and browsed "UNIQLO" for a while. I felt that their casual sports pants and basic shirts were okay. You can check them out next time you need them.
