It is only more than 4 years since the Hakkas moved to Huizhou from eastern Guangdong, western Fujian and southern Jiangxi. However, Huizhou Hakkas, based on tradition and learning from others, have created a Hakka culture with rich regional characteristics.
Hakka local drama-Han Opera
Han Opera, Cantonese Opera and Chaozhou Opera are listed as the three major operas in Guangdong. Han Opera, also known as Waijiang Opera, has a history of more than 3 years, and is known as the "Southern Peony". Huiyang Han Opera Troupe is a cultural group based on the East Jianghan Opera Troupe in Longchuan in 1963, which absorbed talents from Shantou, Shaoguan and Meizhou. It has successfully performed Qin Xianglian, Hai Rui dismissed from office and other Han operas. The troupe staged 47 consecutive performances of "Qin Xianglian" in Huizhou People's Conference Hall (Huadu Theater), which was full and unprecedented. In 1984, the regiment was abolished. However, many artists are still full of persistent pursuit of Hakka traditional local dramas, and voluntarily set up Huizhou Han Opera Music Research Association, striving to make this wonderful Hakka art reappear.
Hakka folk songs have unique artistic style
Huizhou Hakka folk songs have distinctive local colors and unique artistic style. Its lyrics are basically seven words and four sentences. Easy to understand, vivid, sincere, reflecting the local customs, with a strong local flavor. Huiyang Hakka folk song "When the sun rises for half a day, watch the cow sister get better. If it turns to no food, take two sweet potatoes and taro". (including tunes) was included in the book Hakka Folk Songs Range Rover by Professor Wen Ping of Xinghai Conservatory of Music. Wang Junwen, a Hakka in Loujiao Village, Liangjing Town, wrote and sang more than 7,2 folk songs in 44 years. He insisted on using folk songs to help farmers to be less blind, praise good people and publicize the party's principles and policies, and was praised as the "king of folk songs" by the masses. Huang Hongying, a yonghu town Hakka female singer, is a well-known "folk song star" at home and abroad. She sang a song "Hakka Girls Love to Sing".
Hakka Xiehouyu makes people laugh
During my 21-year work in Boluo County, I was fascinated by Hakka Xiehouyu, a local idiom spoken by Hakka, and accumulated over time, and recorded nearly 1 sentences. This kind of oral quotation is generally composed of two parts, the first sentence is a riddle-like puzzle, the second sentence is a mystery, and the last sentence is also omitted. Such as: "Carpenters wear cangue-self-inflicted; Broken wood under the bed-hitting the board "; "The ox crossed the water-each takes care of his own; Sleeping with a hunchback ―― no seats at both ends; The dog bites the tortoise ―― there is no way to bite; Wax cane hits the dog ―― one reel less; Seeing his wife with one eye ―― seeing clearly at a glance; The husband goes to the theatre behind his wife's back ―― making a fool of himself ... "This kind of Hakka allegorical saying makes good use of artistic techniques such as analogy, pun and exaggeration to visualize Hakka dialects, which is both rich and vivid and makes people laugh.
Hakka cuisine-"Dongjiang famous dish"
Huizhou cuisine has three treasures: Dongjiang salted chicken, stuffed tofu and braised pork with plum vegetables. In particular, braised pork with plum vegetables is quite famous at home and abroad. In fact, this is a masterpiece of Dongjiang Hakka in food culture.
The main producing area of Huizhou plum vegetables is Tuqiao Village, Aipi Town, and the history of growing plum vegetables can be traced back to the late Ming Dynasty. According to legend, Tuqiao Meicai was planted by a Hakka surnamed Lu. All households in the village planted it, and the planting and processing techniques were very particular, making it a famous local product in Huizhou.
There are many famous local specialties in Huizhou, such as bamboo shoots and honey in Xixi, Longmen. Boluo Crisp Sugar, Mabei Meatballs, Luofushan Crispy Fermented Vegetable, Herb Oil, Shiba Sanhuang Chicken; Huidong Tieyong offers oysters, and Gaotanming ginger; Huiyang Danshui pear, Zhenlong litchi and so on.
Huizhou Hakka culture not only has the tradition of Hakka in Meizhou, Gannan and western Fujian, but also is good at absorbing the essence of Guangfu and southern Fujian cultures and forming a unique style. For example, Huizhou folk songs originated in Meizhou, but influenced by local indigenous songs, the tunes are not as mellow and soft as Meizhou folk songs, but they are loud and unconstrained. Dongjiang cuisine is also unique, different from Meizhou cuisine.
