Indonesia's Ministry of Agriculture said that the country has prepared a number of strategies to deal with the impact of the current global food crisis. These include: increasing grain output, diversifying grain, increasing grain reserves and promoting the development of modern agriculture.
Speaking at an online seminar on the theme of "Coping with the Global Food Crisis", the Director of the Food Department of the General Administration of Food and Crops of Indonesia said that Indonesia would increase the output of staple foods, especially rice, corn and soybeans, to ensure sufficient food.
In addition to increasing production, Indonesia needs to diversify its crops to prevent food crisis. Mr. Vahap believes that the per capita consumption of rice also needs to be reduced, and other major grains, such as cassava, sago and millet, which are abundant in Indonesia, should be used instead.
Indonesia's next strategy is to increase grain reserves and strengthen logistics. Accordingly, Indonesia will set up food depots at different levels and levels, such as villages, counties, provinces, cities and countries.
In addition, Indonesia needs to transform its agricultural production tools and human resources. In particular, young farmers must be encouraged to be ready to replace older farmers. The younger generation of farmers is expected to promote the development of modern agriculture, improve production capacity and improve crop quality.
At the seminar, the Indonesian Agricultural Food Research and Publicity Center said that the Indonesian government needs to cooperate with all stakeholders, including state-owned and private food companies, to increase domestic food production. In addition, the expert believes that it is very necessary and important for Indonesia to promote the development of modern agriculture and use high-quality seeds.
