1, Chongyang Cake began before the Tang Dynasty and was very popular in Song Palace, Bianjing (now Kaifeng, Henan) and Lin 'an (now Hangzhou, Zhejiang). Since then, it has been popular in modern times.
According to legend, a long time ago, there was a farmer who lived at the foot of the mountain. He is diligent in farming and leads a rich life. One day, a soothsayer couldn't find a place to live, so the farmer invited Mr. soothsayer to his house to entertain him and stay overnight. Mr. Divination is very grateful. Before leaving the next day, he said to the farmer, "You suffered a disaster on September 9, and you'd better move to a high place with little vegetation." The farmer was dubious about Mr. Divination's words. Just in case, the farmer and his family moved to the top of the mountain before September 9, where there was almost no vegetation. In the early morning of September 9, when they stood at the top of the mountain and looked down at their home, it was already a sea of fire. At this time, the fire spread along the foot of the mountain, but fortunately, there was not much vegetation where they lived, so they survived.
The story of the farmer's family climbing the mountain to avoid disaster on September 9 quickly spread among the people, and people followed suit and moved their families to high places on September 9 to prevent accidents. After a long time, people find that it is not a good idea to move every year. Besides, there are no mountains on the plain, so it is impossible to climb. Finally, people came up with a good idea to eat cakes on the Double Ninth Festival. Because of the sound of "cake" and "high", eating cake means climbing high to eliminate disasters. Since then, the custom of eating cakes on the Double Ninth Festival has been formed.
Chongyang cake, also known as "flower cake", is named after it is eaten on the Double Ninth Festival, and it is a traditional seasonal food on the Double Ninth Festival. It is common in Jiangsu, Zhejiang and Shanghai, but it is not popular all over the country.
