Shantou is in the eastern part of Guangdong Province.

Known as "the gateway to Lingdong and the hub of South China", it is the earliest special economic zone opened in the country. It is one of the five special economic zones in the country and an important port city in the south. It is an open coastal city and a famous hometown of overseas Chinese.

Extended information Shantou is located between 116°14′ and 117°19′ east longitude, and 23°02′ and 23°38′ north latitude. It is at the southern end of the Hanjiang River Delta. It borders Raoping, Chaozhou to the northeast, Chaoan, Chaozhou to the north, and Jieyang and Puning to the west.

It borders Jieyang Huilai to the southwest and the South China Sea to the southeast, covering an area of ??2064.4 square kilometers.

Shantou is an important node in the "Greater Pearl River Delta" and "Pan-Pearl River Delta" economic circles. It is an important connection between the Xiamen-Zhangzhou-Quanzhou Triangle (Note: Xiamen, Zhangzhou, and Quanzhou Coastal Economic Open Zones), the Pearl River Delta, and the West Coast Economic Belt.
