Obon Festival is an important Buddhist festival. It falls on the 15th day of the seventh month in the lunar calendar. It is the day for monks to indulge themselves, also known as the Buddha's Happy Day. If the monks from the ten directions indulge themselves and put food and drinks of various kinds in Ullomb basins on this day, offering them to the Buddha and the pure monks who indulge themselves, then the present parents, the parents of the seventh generation, and the six kinds of relatives will suffer from the sufferings of the three paths.
By offering merits to the monks and repaying the nurturing and loving kindness of my parents, I pray that my current parents will live for a hundred years, be disease-free, and be free from all kinds of suffering, and that my parents will be free from the suffering of hungry ghosts in seven lifetimes. Born among gods and humans, happiness is boundless.
