Changsha Wanjiali elevated expressway is the first real expressway in Changsha, which runs through the north and south of the urban area. As for the south extension line, as of August 2022, construction has not started for the time being because it is under planning, and will continue after the planning is completed.

Changsha Housing and Construction Bureau has organized and completed the preliminary research work related to "Rapid Reconstruction Project of South Extension Line of Wanjiali Road". In the previous research scheme, the related problems of Tianjiling Tunnel were studied emphatically, and the reconstruction scheme was put forward. Because the transformation scheme involves crossing the provincial forest botanical garden, the occupation of forest land by construction projects needs to be reported to the competent forestry authorities at all levels for approval, which is a major constraint for the implementation of the transformation of this node. At the same time, the Municipal Housing and Urban-Rural Development Bureau said that the rapid transformation of the south extension line of Wanjiali Road needs to be combined with the overall arrangement of the south extension line of Metro Line 5. According to the municipal infrastructure project plan of 202 1 Changsha, the south extension line of Line 5 is a preparatory project. It is planned to complete the feasibility study approval on 202 1 and start construction in 2022. Therefore, the Municipal Housing and Construction Bureau requires the municipal government to clarify the construction unit of the south extension line of Wanjiali Road as soon as possible and accelerate the implementation of the project.
