The main foods of Lithuanians include pasta, potatoes, beets, cabbage, pork, mutton and dairy products. Ham, sausage, and smoked pork are traditional meat products. They generally like baked food, and they also like to eat porridge cooked with potatoes or peas, and sweet dumplings made with mashed potatoes, milk residue and minced meat. Pork sausage is also a common food.
Large meatballs stuffed with potato and meat
Known as the national dish of Lithuania: the two large meatballs are like dinosaur eggs, with a shiny appearance and thick sour cream dripping from them. The crust is chewy and elastic. The meat filling inside is basically dumpling filling with onions. But the dough is rather greasy, as you can tell from the shimmering oil. Potatoes were not available in Lithuania at first, but thanks to Germany they were only widely eaten in the 19th century. The name Cepelinai comes from the inflatable airships (zeppelins), because the big balls have an airship-like shape.
Eastern Dumplings
This is a snack loved by all Lithuanians. Dumpling’s life experience is also confusing. Its ancestors come from eastern Europe and are a traditional food of a group of people called Karaites. These people are a branch of Judaism, and ethnically they are descendants of Turks. In the 14th century, they moved from Crimea at the junction of Europe and Asia to Lithuania and lived in Vilnius and Trakai.
Bread juice
This "liquid bread" is naturally fermented from Lithuania's traditional black bread (rye). Although it does not contain alcohol, it has a cool and tipsy feeling, which is very comfortable. The bread juice is not only sweet and fragrant, but you can also drink it in one gulp. Drinks similar to those in Russia, Ukraine, and Poland. Of course, Harbin in my country is also one of the places of production. Its sales volume is so good that it can be found in supermarkets in cities across the country. It is called Kvass.
