As of December 31, 2018, Chengdu has eleven districts under its jurisdiction: Qingyang District (formerly Xicheng District), Jinjiang District (formerly Dongcheng District), Jinniu District, Wuhou District, Chenghua District, Longquanyi District, Qingbaijiang District, and Xindu District

, Wenjiang District, Shuangliu District, and Pidu District.

Among them, Qingyang, Jinjiang, Jinniu, Chenghua and Wuhou are urban areas.

The most prosperous districts should be Qingyang and Jinjiang, because the city center is in these two districts.

Chengdu is affiliated to Sichuan Province, abbreviated as "Rong", also known as "Rongcheng", a sub-provincial city, located in the central part of Sichuan Province; Chengdu is an ancient city with a long history of more than 2,300 years, one of the top ten ancient capitals in China, and one of the first batch announced by the State Council

On December 27, 1949, Chengdu was liberated and became the seat of the Western Sichuan Administrative Office.

The second largest city outside Bianjing; home to Dujiangyan, Wuhou Temple, Du Fu Thatched Cottage, Jinsha Ruins and other places of interest, it is an excellent tourist city in China.

There are also national-level new zones—Sichuan Tianfu New Area directly under the Chengdu administration, national independent innovation demonstration zones—Chengdu High-tech Industrial Development Zone, and national-level economic and technological development zones—Chengdu Economic and Technological Development Zone.
