The proposed water transfer project on the Great West Line
The West Line Water Diversion Project was put forward by Mr. Guo Kai in Shuotian Canal Scheme. It is said that it is planned to transfer water from the Shuomatan Reservoir on the Yarlung Zangbo River (the water level is 3,588 meters above sea level) and trek thousands of miles into the Yellow River (the water level is 3,400 meters), with a drop of 188 meters. The whole process flows from high to low (from south to north), passes through a series of high dam reservoirs, aqueducts and tunnels, and is connected in series with "five rivers and one river" (Yarlung Zangbo River, Nujiang River, Lancang River, Jinsha River, Yalong River, Dadu River and Yellow River). It is planned to introduce 200.6 billion cubic meters of "hidden water" into the Yellow River every year. Because "Tibet's water can be used to save China", it "has considerable social, economic and ecological benefits" and "has aroused widespread concern from all walks of life".
