Shanghai Metro Line 4 is the fifth subway line completed and operated in Shanghai, China. The first phase of the project (Damuqiao Road Station to Lancun Road Station) was opened on December 31, 2005, and opened on December 29, 2007.

For the ring-connection section project, the logo color is purple.

Shanghai Metro Line 4 starts from Yishan Road Station in Xuhui District in the south, along Xuhui District, Changning District, Putuo District, Jing'an District, Hongkou District, Yangpu District, Pudong New Area and Huangpu District, and finally returns to Yishan Road Station in Xuhui District.

Along the way, it passes many scenic spots and buildings such as the Shanghai Stadium and Zhongshan Park. The first bus departs at 5:25 a.m. every day, and the last bus departs at 21:30 every day.
