Guangzhou Liberation Memorial Statue

The Guangzhou Liberation Memorial Statue stands in the center of Haizhu Square. It was created by Guangzhou Municipal People's Government in 1959 to commemorate the liberation of Guangzhou. The author is Yin Jichang.

The memorial statue is a granite stone chisel, with a square base, a height of 3.6m, a side length of 4.3m and an image height of 11.5m, facing south. The main body is a PLA soldier with a millet bag on his shoulder, a mauser pistol on his left, a bullet belt around his waist, a rifle in his right hand, a bouquet of flowers in his left hand, and his head held high. The statue is integrated with the square seat, just like a huge stone carving of a seal, which is engraved on the land of Guangzhou.

Haizhu Bridge

Haizhu Bridge was built in 1933, with a total length of 356.67 meters and a main bridge with a total length of 182.9 meters. It was originally a three-hole through simply supported steel truss bridge with a design load of two trains of 1 tons. The middle span is an open structure, which can be separated upward to facilitate the passage of large ships.

Haizhu Bridge is the first steel bridge in China and the first river-crossing bridge in Guangzhou. It was designed by German engineers, built by American companies and made of British steel. It was officially opened to traffic in February 1933.
