First, the historical origin of Xiapu kelp

According to the records of Xiapu County, wild kelp is distributed on rocks 2-3 meters below the low tide line in the coastal waters of Xiapu County. In the 1940s, farmers (fishermen) in coastal and island villages of Sansha Town began to harvest and breed kelp sporadically, making Xiapu the earliest county in South China to collect and breed kelp. 1957, Xiapu County began to carry out experimental breeding in San 'ao, Sansha Town and Dong 'an in the southwest. 1958 successfully cultivated 5 mu of kelp. In the same year, according to the "Instructions on Vigorously Developing Kelp Culture" issued by the Ministry of Fisheries, kelp culture was listed as the main project of the "Great Leap Forward". 1960 kelp nursery in eastern Fujian (hereinafter referred to as the nursery of Sansha Fishery Company) used natural light to carry out indoor kelp cultivation and seedling collection experiments. After the success of 196 10, it began to supply autumn seedlings to kelp culture areas in batches. From 65438 to 0972, the county farm cooperated with the aquatic technology department to reform the material of kelp seedling rope, and replaced the traditional horse hay seedling rope with polyethylene rope wrapped with brown silk, which achieved obvious economic benefits and was commended by the Provincial Fisheries Bureau and popularized throughout the province. 1983, the county farm successfully used kelp floating frame to breed mussels. In 1984, the summer kelp seedlings in the nursery of Sansha Fishery Company successfully crossed the natural sea area, which improved the ability to provide high-yield and high-quality kelp production. After more than 50 years of continuous development, technological innovation and seed selection and cultivation, Xiapu kelp has formed its unique quality characteristics. Xiapu kelp production area has been included in the "Sixth National Agricultural Standardization Demonstration Zone" by the National Standardization Committee.

Second, the quality and characteristics of Xiapu kelp

Its leaves are strip-shaped and unbranched, and its plants are strong. Fresh kelp is olive brown and shiny, with a length of 1.5-2m and a thickness of 1-4mm. Affected by the unique lake-type marine ecological environment, the breeding cycle is shortened, the algae are tender and the crude fiber content is low; The dried product is dark brown and tender; The salty kelp knot of the finished product is emerald green, perishable when cooking, sticky, smooth and refreshing, and mellow in taste.

Xiapu kelp is rich in protein, amino acids, vitamin B 1, B2, carotene, iodine, calcium, iron, zinc and other trace elements. Three. Xiapu kelp industry

Kelp is one of the traditional main products of agricultural economy in Xiapu County, with a long history and large scale, and the seaweed culture area available for development and utilization exceeds 500,000 mu. 10 coastal towns and villages have carried out large-scale planting and breeding to varying degrees, and their area and output are among the best in coastal counties (cities) in China. In 2008, the county planted and cultured 62,600 mu of kelp, with an output of160,500 tons. There are more than 230 kelp processing plants, processing 44,000 tons of kelp products with a total output value of 963 million yuan. More than 10000 people are engaged in kelp industry, and 15000 people directly benefit from it.

At present, there are more than 230 kelp processing plants in the county, and more than 5,000 salespeople travel north and south. In Zhejiang, Jiangsu, Hubei, Hunan, Hebei, Henan, Sichuan, Chongqing, Heilongjiang, Jilin, Liaoning, Guangdong, Guizhou, Anhui, Jiangxi, Xinjiang, Shanxi, Shaanxi and other places, Xiapu kelp products are distributed all over the country.
