Gu Shaopei was born in a family of Zisha pottery in Gunan Street, Dingshu Town, Yixing. Great-grandmothers, grandmothers and mothers are all engaged in making purple clay pots, and grandfather is the leader in purple clay colored glaze technology in Shushan area. Therefore, its ancient south street teapot is more authentic.

Zisha teapot is a unique handcrafted clay handicraft in China. Its production began in Zhengde period of Ming Dynasty, and its raw material was purple clay. Its origin was in Dingshu Town, Yixing, Jiangsu Province.
