Wanyao Village has a pottery-making history of about three hundred years.
Wanyao Village, Boshang Town, Lincang City, Yunnan Province, is located 7 kilometers away from Boshang Town, with an average altitude of 1,700 meters. The mountains and rivers here are beautiful and the climate is humid. Here, there are dozens of production workshops, large and small, and more than 260 households engaged in ceramic production.
It is said that the craftsmanship here was inherited by Hunan people three hundred years ago. After they arrived, they found that the soil here was suitable for pottery, so they built a dragon kiln here to make pottery. This small village has become a famous town in Jiangnan because of its bowl making.
In the past, Wanyao Village had very developed transportation, with many hotels and restaurants, there were constant performances on the stage every night, and merchants from all over the world came to buy bowls. Now it has become a place for many children to experience life on weekends and holidays. The children played with the mud and concentrated on making pottery in their favorite shapes.
Historical evolution of Wanyao Village:
According to records, in the late Ming and early Qing dynasties, the Wu family and other ancestors from Liancheng County, Fujian Province moved inland to Cangnan, Zhejiang Province to avoid war. When he was living in Jiaotan, the southern slope of Yucang Mountain (formerly Pingyang County), he was attracted by the local resources and settled down. He resumed his old business of origin and fired ceramics by hand, especially famous for his blue and white ceramics. Passed down from generation to generation, it reached its peak during the Qianlong period of the Qing Dynasty.
According to historical records, Wanyao, a small village at that time, attracted more than 40 surnames to live together, with a population of up to 4,000 people.
