Hailufeng dialect, commonly known as Fulao dialect (Xuelao dialect and Helao dialect), is widely used in Shanwei, Haifeng and Lufeng, with a population of about 2.6 million. According to its accent characteristics, it can be divided into eight-tone films and seven-tone films, mainly Haicheng dialect and Donghai dialect, and the top three in eastern Lufeng (mainly Jiazi Town, Jiadong Town and a small number of Jiaxi Town) are generally similar to Minnan dialect.
Hakka dialect is mainly distributed in Luhe County, the northeast and northwest of Haifeng County and the northern mountainous area of Lufeng City, with a population of about 550,000.
The vernacular is concentrated in Shanwei Port and Magong Port, and the users are mostly deep-water fishermen, with about 20,000 people. In Shanwei, Haicheng, Donghai and other places, due to frequent business contacts with Hong Kong and Guangzhou, they are deeply influenced by Guangfu culture, and a considerable proportion can speak vernacular.
Zhanmi dialect is a mixed dialect with the characteristics of vernacular, Hakka and Minnan dialect, which is distributed in the southwest of Haifeng County with a population of about 30,000.
Military dialect is a mixed dialect which contains Putonghua but is deeply influenced by Hakka dialect and Minnan dialect. There are three dialect islands: Qingtang Village in Xin 'an Town of Lufeng, Kanshitan Village in Daan Town and Longyintang Village in Pingdong Town of Haifeng, with a population of about 6,543,800.
Northern dialects are mainly concentrated in Shanwei City, with a population of about 20,000, most of whom moved in after Shanwei was founded. After the founding of People's Republic of China (PRC), the state vigorously promoted Mandarin, and about 80% of Shanwei residents can speak Mandarin.
