Zhang Xiao Airport was named in memory of General Zhang Xiao, who was one of the founders of the anti-Japanese guerrillas in Yuncheng during War of Resistance against Japanese Aggression's period and made important contributions to the anti-Japanese struggle in Yuncheng.
The construction of Zhangxiao Airport began at 1938, when it was built by Japanese invaders for military purposes. 1946 After the victory of the Anti-Japanese War, the China government took over the airport and expanded it.
