This very gentle Jiangnan city was once a place I wanted to spend time exploring carefully.

Now, I have a lot of time to feel its changing seasons and rich history.

The first time I came to Nanjing was in 2015. I was on a business trip to Shanghai. My younger brother was studying in Nanjing. My mother and aunt happened to be there at the time. It was a not-so-busy weekend, so I immediately went to Nanjing to join them.

The weekend was very short. I walked around the university town on the first day and left after eating local delicacies on the second day.

That encounter was more like an accidental encounter on the road. They parted quickly after just a quick glance.

Now seven years have passed, and my brother has gone to live further south. At that time, I never thought that one day in the future, I would live in this city for a long time, probably to fulfill my unfinished future.

It's fate.

Nanjing is known as the "ancient capital of six dynasties" in history. These six dynasties are Sun Quan's Soochow during the Three Kingdoms period, the Eastern Jin during the Wei, Jin and Southern and Northern Dynasties, the Southern Liu Song, Southern Qi, Nan Liang and Nan Chen.

In addition, Nanjing is also known as the "City of Ten Dynasties". The four newly added dynasties are the Southern Tang Dynasty during the Five Dynasties and Ten Kingdoms period, the 53rd year of the early Ming Dynasty (when Zhu Yuanzhang established the capital here, and Zhu Di moved the capital here in the 19th year of Yongle).

Such a rich history gives Nanjing a lot of ancient charm.

Whether it’s the faint sound of the guqin beside the Qinhuai River or the lush sycamore trees planted throughout Nanjing, they all highlight the city’s literature, art and romance.

In the summer of 2021, I came to Nanjing from Beijing. Beijing is also known as the "ancient capital of the Five Dynasties". It has the same sense of historical significance, but the two cities still have their own temperaments.

Nanjing is relatively hot and humid in summer. The plane trees on both sides of the streets are lush and leafy, and the Purple Mountain in the distance is faintly visible under the clouds.

I fell in love with this city right away, especially the green plants and flowers here, which make people feel that summer is not so hot.

The first thing to solve is the problem of living. I have always been very enthusiastic about "living". I find a house with a satisfactory layout and layout, and then decorate it later, and it will become a very warm and comfortable home.

Most communities in Nanjing city also have a sense of history. When my husband came to Nanjing first, he found a house in an old community that was also in a school district. The landlord had just renovated it, so the overall living was comfortable, but the layout and lighting were not good enough.

I don’t like it very much. There is no window in the bathroom. In addition, the most important thing is that there is no place suitable for my daily reading and study, as well as putting down a bookcase.

So, we decided to wait until I came to move to a bigger house.

Although the unknown new home is full of expectations, finding a house and moving are two tiring things.

In the first few days after I arrived, I was too lazy to move as some of the things I had just moved from Beijing had already consumed a lot of energy. However, I always felt that there was an unresolved matter that had a major impact on my life that I had to resolve as soon as possible, so I finally took a walk that night.

When we arrived, we walked into an agency store.

The person who received us was a boy who had just graduated. He was wearing neat work clothes and was working nervously in front of the computer.

When he saw us come in and understood our needs, he took me to look at house photos online.

After comparison, I found that the house I was currently living in was already quite comfortable, so I was a little disappointed and wanted to check it out another day.

At this time, another agent came back and mentioned a house he had just shown. The client was not very satisfied. The convenient thing is that now he has the key, and we can also check it out.

I looked at the floor plan online in advance and it seemed pretty good, so we rode the agency’s electric bike directly to our destination.

The house is on the upper floor of a commercial and residential building, with two bedrooms and one living room. It is relatively spacious. Although it still looked a little messy, I could already imagine the beautiful scene after I took care of it. I had expectations for this place at that moment, and expectations will usher in new vitality and motivation in life.

In this way, I had my first official home in Nanjing. My husband and I quickly added many new flowers and green plants that we like. It is extremely gratifying and touching to be able to see the growth of life at home.
