My hometown, Hehe Dongtou, is one of the 12 island counties in the country. It is located in the southeast outside the mouth of Oujiang River, 33 nautical miles away from Wenzhou and 50 kilometers by land. It consists of 103 islands and 259 reefs.
These islands and reefs are like a string of bright pearls, inlaid on the vast expanse of blue waves on the East Coast, adding beauty to the coastal city of Wenzhou, so Dongtou is known as the "County of Hundreds of Islands" and the "Pearl of the East China Sea".
The county has a total area of ??892.3 square kilometers, including 100.3 square kilometers of land area; a total population of 126,000 is distributed on 14 inhabited islands. The county governs 3 towns and 3 townships.
We stayed on Dongtou Island, which is the political, economic, and cultural center of the county. The county government agencies are located in Beiao Town on the island.
Natural resources: Dongtou has a subtropical oceanic monsoon climate with four distinct seasons, abundant sunshine, little severe cold in winter and spring, and no intense heat in summer and autumn. The average climate all year round is 17.4°C. In midsummer, inland cities are subject to heat waves, but here we have cool breezes, so it is the most suitable place.
Relax and escape the heat.
Due to the mild and humid climate, the vegetation is luxuriant and there are many green spaces. It is an advanced county in the country for greening and afforestation.
The camphors, acacia trees and peach blossoms on the island are also highlights of leisure vacations.
The Dongtou Islands have a coastline of 331 kilometers, and the Dongtou Ocean where it is located has a total area of ??4,810 square kilometers. It is the second largest fishing ground in Zhejiang, and more than 300 kinds of fish and shrimp can be caught all year round.
The tidal flats and reefs also contain a wide variety of shellfish and algae.
Therefore, no matter what season you come to Dongtou, you can have a full meal and leave your lips and teeth fresh.
The Dongtou coast is winding and winding, and the sea landforms are well developed.
Long-term seawater erosion has created a large number of sea-eroded reef cliffs, cave bridges and beaches in Dongtou, forming seven major scenic spots and more than 400 landscapes, with clear water, beautiful islands, strange reefs, good beaches, fresh fish, and excellent ecology.
features.
No wonder Wang Buxiao, a poet of the Qing Dynasty, once visited Dongtou and sighed: "The Cangjiang River has turned into mulberry fields several times, and the overseas peach lands have a unique paradise; the clouds are full of blue mountains and the valleys are full of flowers, and the stay here is also like a fairy." In 1991, Dongtou was sealed.
Approved by the Provincial People's Government as a provincial-level scenic spot, it is the only scenic spot named after a county in the province. Together with Yandang Mountain and Nanxi River, it forms the Wenzhou Mountain-River-Sea Tourism Golden Triangle.
Today, let tourists and friends have a taste of this "fairy".
Historical evolution: Dongtou Islands had human activities as early as 4,000 years ago. Stone axes, stone knives and stone spears from the late Neolithic period were unearthed at the Jiumuqiu site in Fengmen Village, Be'ao Town and Ao Di on Damen Island.
According to relevant records, in ancient times Dongtou Island was called "Zhongjie Mountain" and Damen Island was called "Qing'ao Mountain".
During the Liu Song Dynasty of the Southern and Northern Dynasties, Dongtou was affiliated to Yongjia County of Yongjia County. In 423 AD, Xie Lingyun, the prefect of Yongjia, resigned and was replaced by Yan Yanzhi. He inspected the gate island by boat and built a "sea-viewing pavilion" on the island to enjoy the sea view.
This happened more than 1,580 years ago. Yan Yanzhi can be said to be the first person to discover the tourism resources of Dongtou Islands.
In the Tang Dynasty, Dongtou belonged to Lecheng County.
In 825 AD, Zhang Youxin, the governor of Wenzhou, went to Dongtou, Menmen and other places to look for the ruins of Haiting. He was moved by the scene and wrote two poems. One of them, "Qing'ao Mountain" (i.e. Menmen Island), was written like this: "Linghai"
The clear and green peaks have become empty in the past. Today, there are no remaining pavilions, and the clear water and blue waves can be seen. "From the time Yan Yanzhi built the pavilion to Zhang Youxin's search for the pavilion, in the 378 years, people went to the pavilion and destroyed it, leaving only the spiritual sea.
Green peaks, accumulated water, and craggy waves made the poet extremely emotional.
"Complete Poems of the Tang Dynasty" contains 17 poems by Zhang Youxin, 2 of which are about Dongtou.
During the Yuan, Ming and Qing dynasties, Dongtou belonged to Lecheng County, Wenzhou Prefecture.
During this period, in the early Ming Dynasty, in order to resist Japanese pirates harassing the border, and in the early Qing Dynasty, in order to prepare for the anti-Qing struggle along the coast, "sea bans" were implemented twice to evacuate border residents into the interior.
Only a few residents live on the Dongtou Islands.
During the Yongzheng period of the Qing Dynasty, the Dongtou Islands were placed under the newly built Yuhuan Hall, which was called Shidu (du, the old division name, Xiaguan Village).
After the 1930s, Twenty Capital was renamed Sanpan District (the name comes from the three small islands shaped like plates in the Haizhong Lake Scenic Area). In June 1953, a separate county was established and called Dongtou County.
Now, three-fifths of the county's residents speak Minnan and two-fifths speak Wenzhou dialect. This is because immigrants on the island come from coastal Fujian and several counties around Wenzhou.
Some tourists may ask: Why is it called Dongtou?
Where is the hole?
Here's a little story.
During the Qing Dynasty, a Fujian fishing boat went to the Dongtou Yang area for production. When it was using a bucket to fetch water to wash the deck near Xiandieyan, the bucket rope broke and the bucket was swept away by the waves.
When the fishing boat came around a pass at the northeast end of the island, it accidentally discovered their boat's bucket floating in the sea.
They speculated that the bucket must have been drawn into the sea cave, which led to the mouth.
So the place where the bucket fell was called Dongtou, and the place where the bucket floated up was called Dongwei (now Tongqiaowei).
Dongtou Aokou faces a good shelter. During the fishing season, it is the fishing boat distribution center of five provinces and one city. It has a large impact, so the name Dongtou is used to refer to the entire island.
Characteristic cultural history books say that Dongtou is "supported by the ocean outside and supported by three rivers internally" (i.e. Oujiang, Aojiang and Feiyunjiang). "If you steal it, you can build a nest, and if you steal it, you can block it." Therefore, it has always been valued by military strategists.
Since the Southern Song Dynasty, various dynasties have set up military forts on the Dongtou Islands, and the ruins of Fenghuo Dun built on several hills still exist today.
The peasant uprising armies Fang Guozhen of Huangyan in the Yuan Dynasty and Cai Qian of Fujian in the Qing Dynasty both set up camps here and repeatedly defeated the officers and soldiers.
