Years ago, I heard about Zhuhai on the grounds that it was "the cleanest city in China". Not long ago, due to work reasons, I was fortunate enough to come to this city that I have longed for. Sure enough, I was not disappointed. This seaside city has harmonious new and old buildings, friendly and enthusiastic locals who grew up on the seaside, and a unique charm brought by being across the sea from Hong Kong and Shenzhen and being connected to Macau.

In addition, in my opinion, some corners of Zhuhai are very much like old Hong Kong, and some corners are very much like Xiamen. Moreover, it has similar customs, culture and food to my hometown Quanzhou in Fujian, which adds to my special feelings for Zhuhai.

There is a beautiful legend about the fisher girl in Zhuhai. Legend has it that Xiao Yulong, the seventh daughter of the Dragon King of the South China Sea, was fascinated by the beautiful scenery of Luxiang Bay when she was playing. She didn't want to go back to fairyland and decided to go down to earth. Princess Qi dressed up as a fisherman's girl and called herself Yuzhu, and the local fishermen called her "Yuzhu". At work, Zhu Xiao met the honest fisherman Haipeng. Two people are in love with each other, depend on each other day and night, and swear an oath to each other. Unexpectedly, the blue dragon in the sea already knew that the blue dragon coveted the seventh princess. But she failed to pursue him many times, so she turned her love into hatred and wanted to take revenge on the seventh princess. Cangjiao then turned into a dwarf and lived in a fishing village. He made friends with Haipeng and designed to frame Zhu to death. The elders of Jiuzhou led Haipeng to Jiuzhou Island to find the "Resurrection Grass" that could save Zhu Xiao. On their wedding day, Zhu Xiao and the girls picked up a huge sea clam at the beach and dug out a unique treasure. So Zhu Xiao held the treasure high and dedicated it to the respected elder of Jiuzhou.

The famous Chinese sculptor Pan He designed this sculpture based on the legend: a fisherman girl holds a pearl in her hand, dedicating the treasure to mankind and showing light to the world. The Fisher Girl sculpture was built in 1982. It is composed of 70 granite stones weighing 10 tons and is 8.7 meters high. It is the symbol of Zhuhai City.

Zhuhai Museum

The best and most convenient way to learn about a city is to go to a local museum. Zhuhai Museum is also known as Jiuzhou City. Interestingly, the design of Jiuzhou City is very simple and beautiful, because this architectural style has become one of the symbols of Zhuhai.

Jiuzhou City mainly displays Zhuhai’s local cultural relics and systematically displays Zhuhai’s history and culture. The cultural relics include dinosaur fossils, jades, pottery and other objects unearthed locally in Zhuhai, as well as photos of the development of Zhuhai after the reform and opening up. From ancient times to the present, there is everything. The museum consists of more than a dozen exhibition halls, pavilions and open-air ponds.
