Xincheng town's history and culture

According to historical documents, xincheng town was founded in the first year of Huichang, Tang Wuzong (841), with a history of more than 1,16 years. Xincheng was once known as "New Town", "Persimmon Forest" and "New Stream". According to legend, the name of "New Town" began when the city was built in the Spring and Autumn Period. When the town was built in the Tang Dynasty, it was still called "New Town". Since the Tang and Song Dynasties, this name has been known for a long time, sometimes called "Xincheng", and its name was first seen in the Song Dynasty.

"Huan" means "dike". Because the lowlands suffered from floods, they built "Huan" to defend them, so they also took "Huan" as "city". In the late Qing Dynasty, in order to distinguish it from other place names called "New Town", it was named Xincheng. Xincheng is named "persimmon forest" because it is located in persimmon forest township. Xincheng town, from the Tang Dynasty to the Qing Dynasty, was located in the persimmon forest township, which was named after persimmon production, and the town took persimmon forest as another name.

the name of "new stream" is often seen in the Qing dynasty. "Preface to the Initial Notes of Xinxi Poems" states: Xincheng "its water source is Tianmu, and the town is surrounded by water, so it is called" Xinxi ". The Inscription of Nengren Temple by Cai Lianbi in Shunzhi, Qing Dynasty also contains: "Twenty-seven miles northwest of Jia County, with many streams lingering, people turning around, dew in the southwest, Lanxi in the north, and Cheng Zhen, the town is named Xinxi." Therefore, Xincheng is also a "new stream".

In May p>1949, Xincheng was liberated and the xincheng town Municipal People's Government was established.

in may p>1951, Xincheng was upgraded to a town directly under the county. Later, it was subordinate to Jiaxing County, Jiaxing City and Jiaxing Suburb People's Government.

In July, 1992, Xinnong Township was merged into xincheng town. In May 1998, Taoyuan Township and Bazi Township were merged into xincheng town.
