Chongde established a county in the third year of Tianfu (938) of the Later Jin Dynasty, but the city was built later.
The Chongde City Wall was first built in the 28th year of Zhizheng in the Yuan Dynasty. In the 19th year of Hongwu in the Ming Dynasty, in order to prevent Japanese pirates from invading, the then coastal defense chief ordered the Chongde City Wall to be demolished, and all the bricks and stones were moved to Zhapu to build the city. The old Chongde City Wall was demolished.
