Hello, everyone. This is Feng Zihong's travel column. Welcome to pay attention and discuss travel and life together.
Since the concept of pedestrian street came out, almost every city has a pedestrian street, such as Wangfujing Pedestrian Street in Beijing, Nanjing Road Pedestrian Street in Shanghai, Shangxiajiu Pedestrian Street in Guangzhou, etc., which are all famous pedestrian streets in China. Not only do locals go shopping, but they are also places that attract foreign tourists to punch in. The time-honored pedestrian street in Beishangguang, except Beijing and Shanghai, is still booming and crowded, but Guangzhou's Shangxiajiu seems to have declined, not only tourists but also locals will vomit.
Guangzhou Shangxiajiu, located between Shangjiu Road, Xiajiu Road and Shifu Road in Liwan District (commonly known as Xiguan), is one of the three traditional prosperous commercial centers in Guangzhou, with a total length of about 1.2 kilometers, and it is home to various commercial shops and gourmet restaurants. Xiguan area, where Shangxiajiu is located, is the old city of Guangzhou, where there are four strong Xiguan customs combining Chinese and western styles, which is also an important factor that Shangxiajiu attracts countless tourists.
I have been to Shangxiajiu twice. I went there for the first time more than ten years ago. At that time, I was a tourist visiting Guangzhou. When I arrived in Guangzhou, I didn't go to Shangxiajiu, as if I had never been to Guangzhou. At that time, Shangxiajiu gave me the impression that there were too many people. There were Xiguan-style buildings on both sides of the street. There were many shops in the building, some selling Guangzhou specialties, some selling clothes, small commodities and souvenirs, and many snack bars and specialty restaurants. It was very lively, but many people came to Shangxiajiu. It seemed that there was nothing special to buy except snacks. The goods in those shops were always for people.
Ten years later, I went to Shangxiajiu again. Compared with ten years ago, the number of people on the pedestrian street has been much less. I used to think that there were people everywhere, and the photos I took were also heads. Now I feel that I took them casually, and there are very few heads in the pictures. Although there are still many shops, most of them are restaurants, and there are even fewer shops selling souvenirs, costumes, specialties and other commodities. Nowadays, when people talk about Shangxiajiu, it seems to be a "gourmet street".
Many friends who have been to Guangzhou talk about going up, down and down. Some people even use "low" (meaning low-end, cheap) to describe it. You should know that this is an old pedestrian street in first-tier cities. You can imagine how unpopular this street is now. I think there are many reasons. I won't speculate too much. After all, I'm just a tourist, but for tourists, the pedestrian street has become one of the city's business cards, and now it's often vomited by locals and foreigners. Is it necessary to keep this business card standing?
Why?
