Huanggang Dingwei Road is located in Raoping County.
This is a newly opened street in the county town of Huanggang in 1934, named "Dingwei Road", in memory of the Huanggang Dingwei Revolution led by Sun Yat-sen.
Dingwei Road starts from Xia Laoxiang New Palace in the east and ends at Nanmen Renlishe Wanggong Palace in the west (the Hounanmen Grain Station, today's tea market), with a total length of 1,665 meters, more than 590 inns and shops, and 4 horizontal streets connecting it.
Zhongshan Road.
The inn shops are in the style of corporate buildings, and most of them are two to three-story buildings (later converted into three-, four-, five-, and six-story buildings, varying in size).
The construction of Dingwei Road is a huge project. The original roadbed was a complex of houses and ditches and ponds, and the middle section also passed through the south gate of the ancient city.
To build this road, in addition to relocating residential houses, ditches and ponds must be filled in, and ancient city walls and gates must be demolished, which is a very difficult project.
However, in order to commemorate Ding Wei's revolution, the people of Huanggang actively donated money, moved their homes and gave up land, and made suggestions for the construction of new streets and roads.
The project took more than a year to complete, with a construction area of ??16,382 square meters, and was specially named "Dingwei Road".
The Dingwei Uprising was an anti-Qing uprising led by Sun Yat-sen in 1907. This uprising was an important part of the anti-feudal democratic revolution. It effectively shook the feudal rule of the Qing Dynasty and made a major contribution to the eventual end of the feudal monarchy in China.
To commemorate the Huanggang Dingwei Revolution led by Dr. Sun Yat-sen, Huanggang Town opened a street, Dingwei Road, in 1934.
Dingwei Road is also famous for its historical value and unique arcade scenery. However, due to the erosion of time, disrepair and the impact of modern urban buildings, the integrity of Dingwei Road has been irreversibly damaged.
Therefore, it is urgent to repair and protect the arcade buildings on Dingwei Road and protect the historical culture.
In order to protect historical culture, Raoping County, Chaozhou City launched the reconstruction project of the old block of Dingwei Road to turn Dingwei Road into Raoping's "Internet Celebrity Street".
In May 2019, Dingwei Road began section-by-section closed construction.
Although the traffic ban has affected shop owners and residents along the road, everyone has actively cooperated.
The first phase of the Dingwei Road project is 450 meters long and 11 meters wide. It mainly reconstructs and upgrades the damaged cement pavement from Nanhua Road to Qinghua Road. The project will lay six centimeters thick navy blue slates on the original road surface and three centimeters thick navy blue slates on the sidewalks.
The second phase of the facade renovation project is based on "restoring the old with the old". The archway will be re-erected, the arcade will be repaired, and the charm of the Republic of China on Dingwei Road will be restored.
Dingwei Road will also plan five major blocks including traditional culture, specialty industries and tourism boutiques, residential inns, snacks, entertainment and leisure, and complete supporting facilities such as parking lots to make this ancient cultural and artistic street truly come alive.
After completion, lifting traffic piles will be set up at the intersections on both sides. Motor vehicles will be prohibited from entering and exiting during the day. It will be opened at 10 o'clock in the evening, creating a pedestrian "Internet celebrity street" with traditional historical features and traditional history and culture.
This renovation aims to protect the original characteristics of Dingwei Road. Without destroying the original characteristic arcade buildings, Dingwei Road will be built into a characteristic pedestrian street integrating culture, commerce and tourism, truly transforming Dingwei Road into a unique pedestrian street.
The ancient streets should be protected and utilized to make them become historical and cultural landmarks in Raoping County.
