The effect of Liuwei Dihuang Pill is nourishing yin and tonifying kidney. Indications: Kidney-yin deficiency syndrome caused by kidney deficiency and essence deficiency and internal disturbance of deficiency fire.

Symptoms include soreness of the waist and knees, dizziness and tinnitus, night sweats and nocturnal emission, thirst quenching, hot flashes due to bone steaming, fever of hands and feet, dry tongue and sore throat, loose teeth, heel pain, discomfort in children's chimney, red tongue with little coating and heavy pulse.

Liuwei Dihuang Pill consists of Radix Rehmanniae Preparata, Fructus Corni, Rhizoma Dioscoreae, Cortex Moutan, Rhizoma Alismatis and Poria.

Zuogui Pill has the functions of nourishing yin and tonifying kidney, replenishing essence and marrow. Indications: Deficiency of true yin caused by deficiency of vital energy and deficiency of hidden yang. Symptoms include backache and leg weakness, dizziness, deafness and insomnia, nocturnal emission, spontaneous sweating and night sweats, dry mouth and throat, red tongue with little coating and thready pulse.

Zuogui Pill consists of Radix Rehmanniae Preparata, Rhizoma Dioscoreae, Fructus Corni, Fructus Lycii, Radix Cyathulae, Semen Cuscutae, Colla cornus Cervi and Colla Plastri Testudinis.

Zuogui Pill has stronger kidney-tonifying effect than Liuwei Dihuang Pill, and is more suitable for deficiency of true yin. However, Liuwei Dihuang Pill is mild in nature, which is more suitable for the syndrome of deficiency of kidney yin with internal heat.
